Lenovo is now also entering the fast growing list of sub $500, under 3 pound, underpowered devices that is sure to pique the interests of mobile users who already own a laptop.

The Lenovo IdeaPad S10 is a 10 inch netbook with Atom CPU and 80GB HDD. The price-point of the S10 is under $500 to compete with the MSI Wind U100 and others. A 9 inch version of the S10 will be available Outside the United States. The device can weigh as little as 2.4 pounds, depending on whether you use the 3-cell battery (3 hours) or a 6-cell one (6 hours). No one has figured out how to put a full-size keyboard on a UMPC, and the S10’s 85-percent one is no exception. (more…)

Sony has launched a new Sony VAIO Z series line of lightweight notebooks. The VAIO Z model gets a 13.1-inch widescreen display with Sony’s XBRITE-DuraView LCD technology that promises scratch resistant durability and 100% colour saturation. The notebook is weight just over 3 pounds. Construction-wise, there’s “a seamless sheet of brushed aluminum” on the keyboard panel and it’s housed in a durable carbon-fibre casing with G-Sensor shock protection. The Z series is also available in a dual channel 128GB solid state drive model that will go for around $2300, while the standard VAIO Z notebook will start at about $1800, available in the States in August.
